book v/s movie.part 1

A few days ago, in a conversation with my brother, he pointed out a weird habit of mine : reading a BOOK whose movie I have already watched. He presented me with loads of examples for a simple question : "why read a book when you can watch a movie ?"so here I am ,after searching the net for a suitable video, with a pretty explanation : Movies do NOT follow the same storyline as the book. There are always major changes in the storyline. And,reading a book always provides me with pleasure that watching a movie can never do. In a book, you just crib to know what will happen next but as always we know this that whatever happens; a movie will always end on a good note.SO here's the first video :

The devil wears Prada
By Lauren Weisberger

the novel revolves around Andrea Sachs, a Brown university graduate who leaves her home town to settle in the busy life of Manhattan. Andrea,a long time reader of the New Yorker who knows each article by heart, aspires to be one of the famous hotshot writers of the New Yorker. So she tries her luck but instead lands herself as the junior assistant in the plush offices of Runway.
She has never heard of the world's most fashionable magazine or its feared editor: Miranda Priestly. She is the devil boss and doesn't miss a chance to criticize her employees.

Punctuality, uniformity and fashion sense is what counts in her qualities of a perfect employee. Its quoted as "the job a million girls would die for". At first Andrea tries to make her hellish job into a bearable one but soon finds herself adopting to the changes. Spending 14 hours a day at Runway leaves her with a little time for herself and her her family and friends.

The job starts affecting her health and she soon finds herself very thin. Her best friend turns into an alcoholic and is arrested for road rash while her boyfriend dumps her because she is always working. Soon she realizes that the job isn't worth her hard work. So when she accompanies her devil boss, Miranda, to Milan for the fashion show she has had too much. Andrea insults her boss and kicks her job away and takes the first flight home.

I really like the way the book has been written. The Writer makes you laugh, cry and feel the way she feels. "Andrea Sachs's" character has been very well written. In the end,Andrea finds it difficult at first to cope with her changed life But then, life is never perfect. She experiences things she didn't enjoy last year like spending time with her family and friends because she didn't have time for it, a life without Runway, without the unimportant hassles of committing a fashion faux pas.Earning is not a strong point at first, but then she starts random articles which atleast allows her to live a hassle-free life.

Twilight disorder

In the beginning of January I picked up copy of "Twilight by Stephenie Meyer "and found myself totally engrossed in it. It revolves around the life of Isabela Swan who moves to Forks a small town in Washington DC from Phoenix to live with her father, police chief,Charlie. She knows adjusting here will be more harder from her home Phoenix. But Bella has very little idea how difficult it will be here.........

At school the shy Bella finds a new found popularity with boys.Except for one.Edward Cullen hates her more than anything. But after Edward saves Bella's life, she discovers the truth-Edward is a vampire who is strongly attracted to her scent and is in love with her.He has been struggling with his deadly attraction towards her in order to keep her safe.

Edward belongs to a family of adopted and extremely gifted vampires.Alice can predict the future, while Rosalie is charming blonde,Carlisle who is the respected doctor with no desire for human blood,Jasper can make people feel the way he feels,Esme with her loving nature take cares of her vampire family, while Emmett is always ready to engage in fights and is the Cullen joker.Edward can read minds of all species on this world except for Bella which makes him more inclined towards her. The Cullen's have sworn to live off human blood and say alive by hunting animals.Meyer has cleverly chosen myths of vampire living to create her own fairy tale and describes them so vividly that you have no choice but fall for it

Twilight is an amazingly atmospheric novel with Forks having a very lush environment. After Bella and Edward find some peace together ,a new danger enters-visitors from the other coven. Not all the vampires have sworn off human blood. With James, the tracker who is strongly influenced by Bella's scent and has set his mind to drink her blood and the Cullens who are together just to stop the mis happening makes this book a worth read.
Highly recommended !
So with the year 2010 to an end, I decided to make a list of the top 5 books of 2010. I hope you may find some books good enough to read them. The list goes as follows :
Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
One of my favorite authors is Sophie Kinsella and when the book "mini shopaholic "was released I was unusually desperate to grab a copy of the book. The story revolves around Becky's two year old daughter Minnie whose favorite word is "mine". From a scarf at Denny and George to a pony for thanksgiving anything she likes is her own. She hires a taxi randomly and never misses a chance to create trouble whether at Harrods or her christening. As if this wasn't enough Luke and becky are still living with their mum and dad, and London is hit by a financial crisis. People are cutting back including Becky's own clients. To lighten things up she decides to throw a surprise party for Luke and suddenly things stir up resulting into great complications.

Gingersnaps by Cathy Cassidy
Gingersnaps is about a girl who has the bad fortune of having her hair match her name:- GINGER. In primary school she was badly bullied by the popular girl Chelsea and her friends, even the teachers smirked when they heard her name. She had no friends and the only people who she ever talked to was Emily and Meg who were happy being just the two of them and she felt lonely. Everything changes for her in Secondary school as she befriends the cool Shannon and the two become best mates, but when they befriend lonely Emily Ginger's world's goes upside down. As all the the bad memories that she buried away a long time ago seem to be coming back in her life and even the saxophone playing boy :- Sam Tyler can't help as he is also part of the big mess. The book focuses on friendship and gives us some life changing lessons which make the book a worth read.

Chicken soup for the teenage soul III by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hanson and Kimberly Kirberger
The book is dedicated to Teenagers and moreover is written by teens. The third book of the teenage soul series goes deeper into the issues teenagers face everyday and also offers compassion and understanding in different situations of life. Most of the times it offers stories that we can relate to our own lives. A book you will read and re-read as it is highly addictive.

Chicken soup for the teenage soul on Love and friendship by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hanson and Kimberly Kirberger
the book is another captivating one with more than hundred stories of love and friendship of the famous teenage soul series. Some of my favorite read from the book are :- "Teenage love", "saying goodbye", "tag" and "the rumor was true".

PS. I love you by Cecelia Ahern
the book is set in Ireland and revolves around Holly Kennedy who is living a happy life with her husband Gerry. So when Gerry dies of illness, his death devastates Holly.Nobody knew Holly better than Gerry, so when he died he left her a series of 10 letters which will guide Holly through the difficult life and bring back sweet memories.
